EMILYs List Endorses Haley Stevens in Michigan’s 11th District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Haley Stevens for Congress in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Congratulations to Haley Stevens for her hard-earned primary win. Haley is running for Congress to expand job opportunities in Michigan — something she has dedicated her career to doing. During the Obama administration, she played a key role in restoring the financial stability of the auto industry and helped save thousands of Michigan jobs. Haley recently led a national workforce development program and launched a STEM education initiative for middle and high school students. She understands the tough issues facing families in Michigan’s 11th District and in Congress she will work to make sure their voices are heard.

“Haley is running in a seat left open by Republican David Trott, whose reliable vote for the GOP's disastrous agenda is sure to be preserved if Lena Epstein has anything to say about it. Thankfully, voters have a clear choice for their representative this November. Michigan's 11th District has never sent a woman to Congress and EMILY's List is proud to stand with Haley to help her flip this seat and become the first.”

As the daughter of a CEO mother and public school teacher father, Haley Stevens knows what it takes to work hard and make a difference. She served as a political appointee under President Obama, working as chief of staff for the Treasury Department’s Auto Task Force and as a special advisor for the Department of Commerce. Haley was a key player in retaining and creating manufacturing job opportunities in Michigan and across the country. Since leaving government, she has remained dedicated to expanding economic opportunity, leading manufacturing innovation and workforce development programs across the country. Haley was born and raised in Oakland County, Michigan and graduated from Seaholm High School.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
