EMILYs List Endorses Governor Janet Mills in the Must-Win Maine U.S. Senate Race
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Gov. Janet Mills in the Maine U.S. Senate race. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“This moment demands someone with backbone and grit. Someone who has proven she will fight Trump head on and defeat him when he tries to hurt Maine – that is Janet Mills. When the stakes are this high, we should leave nothing to chance. Janet Mills is the only candidate in this race who is going to defeat Susan Collins and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her.”
From being the first woman to be elected as a district attorney in New England, to being the first and only woman to serve as attorney general of Maine, to becoming the first woman governor of Maine, Janet Mills has not only proven she can win but that those who underestimate her are wrong. As the first woman governor of Maine, she earned more votes than any governor in Maine history and is the first governor since 1970 to be elected with a majority of the vote for both terms in office. While Susan Collins bows down to Trump and helps him hurt Mainers, Gov. Janet Mills is fighting back and winning. She has always fought for a better future for the people of Maine, and, now, she’ll take that fight to the U.S. Senate.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Over 40 years, EMILYs List has raised nearly $950 million to help Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the most impactful independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 192 women to the House, 29 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,600 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
