EMILYs List Endorses Evelyn Farkas in New York’s 17th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Evelyn Farkas in New York’s 17th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Evelyn Farkas has dedicated her career to serving and protecting the interests of the American people, and EMILYs List is proud to support her campaign. The daughter of two Hungarian refugees, Evelyn is committed to protecting and expanding the economic opportunities that allowed her family to achieve success. Her extensive experience with the Senate Armed Services Committee, and as deputy assistant secretary of defense under President Obama makes her uniquely qualified to represent New York’s 17th Congressional District in Washington. Once elected, Evelyn will be a champion for New York’s women and working families, and we are proud to stand with her.”

Evelyn Farkas is a national security leader and dedicated public servant running for Congress to fight for New York working families. Evelyn earned a bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall College, and a master’s and Ph.D. from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She has held leadership positions in the U.S. Department of Defense and ran a congressional commission focused on containing weapons of mass destruction. As deputy assistant secretary of defense under President Obama, Evelyn represented the United States in 14 different countries. As a national security contributor for NBC and MSNBC, she helped keep the American public informed about critical foreign relations matters. Most recently, Evelyn served as a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and German Marshall Fund. She is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the board of trustees of Franklin & Marshall College.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
