EMILYs List Endorses Erin Maye Quade for Minnesota State Senate
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Erin Maye Quade for election to the Minnesota state Senate. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled that Erin Maye Quade is continuing her bid to represent Minnesota’s 56th Senate District, and we are proud to support her in this race. As the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, EMILYs List is committed to breaking down obstacles that prevent mothers from running for office. We commend Maye Quade’s resilience and determination while attending the Democratic-Farmer-Labor endorsing convention and delivering a speech while in active labor, and we know that she will bring this tenacity to the state Senate to fight for Minnesotans.
“From addressing racial disparities to fully funding public schools, Maye Quade has a proven record of taking on tough fights, even when others have told her to back down. She is a staunch proponent of reproductive justice, and is the advocate Minnesotans need amid a nationwide attack on our reproductive health care. EMILYs List is eager to see this pro-choice champion elected to the Minnesota state Senate.”
Former state Rep. Erin Maye Quade is a lifelong Minnesotan and dedicated advocate for her community. When elected to the Minnesota state House in 2016, she was the only Democrat to flip a state House seat from red to blue. In office, she championed paid family leave, access to affordable child care, ending child hunger, eliminating gun violence, and investing in mental health care and substance abuse treatment. In 2018, she founded the Childhood Hunger Caucus, a coalition dedicated to ending child hunger in the state. She currently works to create a gender equitable future as the advocacy director at Gender Justice. Now, she is seeking election to the Minnesota state Senate to continue fighting for the policies Minnesotans need.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
