EMILYs List Endorses Elaine Luria in Virginia's 2nd District
 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Elaine Luria for Congress in Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Serving our country for 20 years, Elaine Luria was one of the first women to serve the entirety of her service in the U.S. Navy on combatant ships. Today, she serves her community through her small business that creates jobs and promotes tourism in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. As a small business owner and veteran, Elaine understands the needs of the military families and working folks in her district, and would bring a strong voice to Congress on their behalf.

“Scott Taylor, on the other hand, has roundly failed the people he was sent to Washington to represent. His votes to end health care access for millions of Americans and grant big corporations giant tax cuts are totally out of step with the values of this community. Elaine will defend access to quality affordable health care, invest in our infrastructure, support our nation's veterans, and look to cut red tape for small business owners. Families of the 2nd District deserve better, which is why EMILY's List is proud to endorse Elaine Luria.” 

Elaine was deployed around the world as a surface warfare officer and nuclear engineer, working tirelessly to enforce sanctions, operate nuclear reactors, and oversee complex weapons systems. She retired from the U.S. Navy in 2017 with the rank of commander, and started a small business from her kitchen table that has grown to create jobs in her community and support local organizations for youth and the arts. Elaine is a powerful advocate for Virginia military families. In 2017, she helped Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring launch the Military and Veterans Legal Guide, a new resource for military families and veterans who are often targets for fraud. Elaine and her husband Robert, who retired after 27 years of naval service, have lived in Norfolk for nearly twenty years and are proud to raise their daughter in the diverse and vibrant community they are proud to call home.
