EMILY's List Endorses Eight More Women Leaders for the Texas State Legislature
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed eight more women leaders for the Texas state Legislature. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Fighting back against radical anti-choice and anti-women policies in Texas is no small feat, but these tough-as-nails pro-choice Democratic women are ready to do just that. EMILYs List is proud to endorse these eight incredible candidates, who as community advocates, small business owners, educators, and volunteers are helping to build a brighter future for every Texan.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates:
Rita Lucido (SD-17)
Vikki Goodwin (HD-47)
Ana-Maria Ramos (HD-102)
Joanna Cattanach (HD-108)
Rhetta Bowers (HD-113)
Brandy Chambers (HD-112)
Gina Calanni (HD-132)
Allison Lami Sawyer (HD-134)
These endorsements are in addition to five previously endorsed EMILY's List candidates – Lina Hidalgo (Harris County Judge), Beverly Powell (SD-10), Terry Meza (HD-105), Representative Victoria Neave (HD-107) and Julie Johnson (HD-115) – who also advanced to the general election.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
