EMILYs List Endorses Cynthia Wallace in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Cynthia Wallace in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Cynthia Wallace will be ready to fight for North Carolinians on day one in Congress, and EMILYs List is thrilled to stand with her. A former educator and businesswoman who has dedicated her career to expanding access to financial and educational opportunities, she will fight for more inclusive policies that work for working families. Cynthia is a problem-solver with a clear vision for progress, and EMILYs List is confident that she will bring new leadership and a fresh perspective to the 117th Congress. North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District can trust that she will always put their interests first, and we are proud to endorse her campaign.”
The granddaughter of farmers, Cynthia Wallace grew up in a small, rural Georgia town, where her father was the co-founder of his local NAACP and the first African American elected county commissioner. She graduated from Spelman College and earned her master’s degree in statistics at the University of North Florida, where she teacher’s assistant and taught undergraduate math classes, and interned for two summers with the Jacksonville Transit Authority to make ends meet. Cynthia has worked for three Fortune 500 financial services companies in her 25-year career in the financial services industry. Cynthia has long been active in the National Alumnae Association of Spelman (NAASC), and she helped re-charter Charlotte’s local NAASC chapter and served as president, encouraging young African American women from North Carolina to pursue higher education. Cynthia co-founded the Charlotte chapter of one of her company’s diversity networks, and she is an active member of her church.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
