WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Betsy Dirksen Londrigan for Congress in Illinois’ 13th District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Betsy Dirksen Londrigan is a self-employed businesswoman and community leader who knows the stakes that Central Illinois families face. Due to a life-threatening health care crisis in her own family, Betsy clearly understands the meaning of good, affordable medical care and will be a passionate voice in the fight for health care.”

“When Congressman Rodney Davis fell in line behind Paul Ryan in support of the disastrous Republican health care bill earlier this year, Betsy knew that Central Illinois needed a leader who will fight entrenched special interests and isn’t afraid to stand up to party leaders. At a time when Congressman Davis is failing Illinois families, Betsy wants to make change and fix the broken system – and EMILYs List is proud to stand with her.”

Earlier this year, EMILYs List placed Congressman Rodney Davis “On Notice” as one of their top targets for 2018.

Betsy Dirksen Londrigan is an Illinois fighter running for Congress to serve the working families of the community that she has proudly called home all her life. An experienced progressive and nonprofit leader, Betsy has worked for United States Senator Dick Durbin and served as a fundraiser for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation. She has worked as a self-employed entrepreneur while raising her three children, and is a powerful advocate for small businesses that are the backbone of our economy. A champion for access to health care, a deeply personal issue for her family, Betsy has worked tirelessly to support children’s hospitals and to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network and St. John’s Children’s Hospital. She was born and raised in Springfield, where she and her husband have raised their three children, adding another generation to their deep family roots in Sangamon County.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to help more women run and win at the local, state, and national levels.
