EMILYs List Endorses Audrey Denney in California’s 1st Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Audrey Denney in California’s 1st Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Audrey Denney is no stranger to fighting tough battles and overcoming adversity, and EMILY's List is proud to endorse her campaign. After a surgery to remove a football-sized tumor on her ovary could have bankrupted her in 2018, Audrey used her experience to call attention to the inaccessibility of affordable health care in America. As someone who understands firsthand the challenges rural communities face, she is uniquely qualified to champion their interests in Washington. While incumbent GOP Rep. Doug LaMalfa has forgotten the families he was elected to serve, Audrey is a dedicated public servant with the leadership skills necessary to support them through devastating wildfires and COVID-19. Audrey will bring her grit and tenacity to the fight for North State families and EMILYs List is thrilled to stand with her.”
Audrey Denney spent her childhood on her family’s farm and ranch in central California. Her father was a Vietnam veteran and her mother was a leader in their church, and her family grew hay and wine grapes and raised beef cattle and draft horses. Audrey worked her way through college in the food and beverage industry in service, management, and consultative positions. She taught agriculture at California State University, Chico for almost six years, and went on to spend a year as a volunteer working with rural youth on agriculture projects in El Salvador and another year working for a nonprofit doing agricultural education work in West Africa while living in Ghana. Today, Audrey designs learning strategy and curriculum for worldwide agricultural companies and nonprofits, like the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and the World Bank.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
