WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Ann Kirkpatrick for Congress in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Ann Kirkpatrick is a trailblazer who loves Arizona. Arizonans need her leadership and courage so she can continue fighting for opportunity, shared economic prosperity, and safe and thriving communities.

“As a prosecutor in a male dominated field, Ann worked to protect women and families from domestic violence and expanded protection programs for witnesses. As a state legislator, Ann fought for stronger schools and responsible management of taxpayer dollars. Ann took those experiences to Congress, working across the aisle to help veterans get the care they need, improve infrastructure in Native American and rural communities, and bring good-paying mining jobs back to Arizona.”

“In contrast to Ann’s bipartisan leadership, Congresswoman Martha McSally continues to put partisanship ahead of helping Arizonans. When her party wanted to rip health care coverage away from 23 million Americans – around 465,000 Arizonans – and defund Planned Parenthood, McSally ‘urged her colleagues to get this ‘(expletive) thing done.' Maybe that explains why McSally has voted with President Donald Trump 95% of the time.”

“Arizonans deserve a no-nonsense leader like Ann Kirkpatrick who wants to create a brighter future for Arizona families and isn’t afraid to push back against the McSally-Trump agenda – which is why EMILYs List is proud to stand with her.”

EMILY's List supported Kirkpatrick when she first ran for Congress in 2008 and endorsed her campaign for the U.S. Senate in 2016. Hillary Clinton won Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District by nearly five points in 2016, and Ann Kirkpatrick is the strongest candidate to flip this seat next year.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
