EMILYs List Endorses Angie Craig for Congress in Minnesota’s 2nd District
October 13, 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Angie Craig for Congress in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Angie Craig has spent her career fighting to create jobs, and opportunity for Minnesotans because she believes that all families deserve a fair shot. From growing up for a portion of her childhood without health insurance to working her way through college to winning a landmark ruling to adopt her son to using her position as a Fortune 500 executive to lead the effort to hire and promote more Minnesota women and veterans, Angie has shown that she can make change and work to fix the broken system in Washington.”
“Meanwhile, Congressman Jason Lewis betrayed his constituents earlier this year when he voted to kick over 250,000 Minnesotans off their health insurance, increase their premiums, and restrict women’s access to life-saving care – and he wouldn’t even face his constituents. Lewis also doubled-down on his absurd, out-of-touch claim that single women are 'ignorant,' 'non-thinking,' 'Stepford Wives' for expressing concern about coverage for birth control. At a time when the American Dream is still out of reach for so many, hardworking Minnesotans deserve a leader like Angie who knows the stakes middle-class families face and will never stop fighting for them – and EMILYs List is proud to stand with her.”
EMILY's List endorsed Craig when she ran for Congress in 2016. Earlier this year, EMILYs List placed Congressman Jason Lewis “On Notice” as one of their top targets for 2018.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
