EMILYs List Endorses Additional Candidates for the Michigan State Legislature

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed five additional women for election to the Michigan State Legislature. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is delighted to announce that we are endorsing additional women for election in Michigan. All five of these pro-choice champions are challenging anti-choice Republicans — and though abortion remains legal in Michigan because of the leadership of Gov. Whitmer, the future of reproductive rights are uncertain for Michiganders. There is no doubt that these candidates will champion their constituents' reproductive freedom.

EMILY's List endorsed the following slate of candidates:

  • Sue Shink (MI-SD14)
  • Shadia Martini (MI-HD54)
  • Sharon MacDonnell (MI-HD56)
  • Aisha Farooqi (MI-HD57)
  • Cheri Hardmon (MI-HD68)

These endorsements are in addition to the 31 previously endorsed EMILYs List legislative candidates headed to the general election in Michigan: Regina Weiss (MI-HD06), Helena Scott (MI-HD07), Betsy Coffia (MI-HD103), Jenn Hill (MI-HD109), Lori Stone (MI-HD13), Stephanie Young (MI-HD16), Kelly Breen (MI-HD21), Jaime Churches (MI-HD27), Reggie Miller (MI-HD31), Christine Morse (MI-HD40), Carrie Rheingans (MI-HD47), Jennifer Conlin (MI-HD48), Dr. Patricia Bernard (MI-HD55), Denise Mentzer (MI-HD61), Julie Brixie (MI-HD73), Kara Hope (MI-HD74), Angela Witwer (MI-HD76), Rachel Hood(MI-HD81), Kristian Grant (MI-HD82), Carol Glanville (MI-HD84), Erika Geiss (MI-SD01), Sylvia Santana (MI-SD02), Stephanie Chang (MI-SD03), Dayna Polehanki (MI-SD05), Mallory McMorrow (MI-SD08), Padma Kuppa (MI-SD09), Veronica Klinefelt (MI-SD11), Rosemary Bayer (MI-SD13), Sarah Anthony (MI-SD21), Winnie Brinks (MI-SD29), Kristin McDonald Rivet (MI-SD35).

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
