FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Abigail Spanberger for reelection in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s leadership in Congress has been crucial to the passage of legislation that has championed the needs of Virginians and all Americans, and her dedication to preserving reproductive freedom, protecting democracy, and serving her fellow members of Congress is unparalleled. EMILYs List is thrilled to re-endorse this pro-choice champion for another term representing the people of Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, and we look forward to seeing all that she will accomplish.”

Rep. Abigail Spanberger is an experienced leader and a deeply committed public servant who serves in Congress to expand economic opportunity for Virginia working families. She grew up in Henrico County, Virginia, and is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia. She began her career of public service as a federal law enforcement officer working narcotics and money laundering cases with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Following her love of country, public service, and languages, she went on to join the CIA as a case officer and worked undercover collecting intelligence, managing assets, and overseeing high-profile programs to combat terrorism and keep Americans safe. In 2014, she left government service to begin a career in the private sector. When she saw partisan politics and division threatening the country she dedicated her life to defend, she decided to run for Congress. Spanberger was elected to represent Virginia’s 7th Congressional District in 2018. She and her husband are parents to three daughters.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
