The 9th Annual #BWL reception will return in-person and will serve as a space to celebrate the leadership of Black women who are members of the Congressional Black Caucus during its annual conference.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — On Sept. 30, 2022, EMILYs List, Emerge, Higher Heights for America, and #VOTEPROCHOICE will honor the women of the Congressional Black Caucus who have served our country through public service, and who will be leaving office at the end of this congressional session. Special guests will include women from the Congressional Black Caucus.

Featured speakers will include Higher Heights Co-founder Glynda Carr, EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler, President of Emerge A’shanti Gholar and Director of Political & External Engagement for #VOTEPROCHOICE, Thia'a Rahman.

Not only is this event a celebration of the women of the Congressional Black Caucus, it is also an opportunity to highlight the urgency of supporting Black women candidates who are on the frontlines of championing many of the rights, like access to abortion, that have been taken away or are under threat, across the country.

Higher Heights is the only national organization providing Black women with a political home exclusively dedicated to harnessing their power to expand Black women’s elected representation and voting participation and advance progressive policies.

Higher Heights for America, a 501(c)(4), and its sister organization Higher Heights Leadership Fund, a national 501(c)(3) organization are building the political power and leadership of Black women from the voting booth to elected office and creating the environment for Black women to run, win and lead. EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.

#VOTEPROCHOICE has been at the forefront of the fight to elect bold, pro-choice candidates up and down the ballot, investing millions of dollars since 2016 in flipping seats across the country and sending pro-choice candidates to elected office to fight for access to abortion.

Emerge, the nation’s premier organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, has trained more than 5,000 Democratic women to run since 2002 and currently has more than 1,000 alums in elected office across the country. In 2022, the organization had a 77% win rate in the primaries and more than 600 alums will appear on the November general election ballot. Emerge is committed to reaching 100,000 women of the New American Majority over the next 15 years, fostering a lift as you climb culture for women in politics, and repowering political structures. There are currently 27 state affiliates, and the organization has impacted a total of 45 states, Washington, D.C. and territories.
