EMILYs List, Congressional Black Caucus PAC Condemn False GOP Ads Attacking OH-13 Candidate Emilia Sykes

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler and Congressional Black Caucus PAC Chair Rep. Gregory Meeks released the following statements on Congressional Leadership Fund’s false ads against state Rep. and candidate for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District Emilia Sykes, which grossly distort her bipartisan record of protecting victims of domestic violence and feature racist lies.

“The unoriginality of the GOP is no surprise. They are not above promoting false information to uplift their own self interest instead of the interests of the American people, who are suffering for their lack of bipartisanship. This is why we need proven and trusted leaders like former Minority Leader Emilia Sykes, who is a true daughter of Akron. She understands what needs to be done for the people of Ohio. What we don’t need in Congress is someone who purchased multiple homes to district-shop and buy a congressional seat. We need Emilia Sykes come November,” Chairman and Rep. Gregory Meeks said.

“EMILYs List strongly condemns the false attack ads on Emilia Sykes, which distorts her strong, bipartisan record of being a fighter for victims of domestic violence and holding their abusers accountable for their crimes. Her out-of-touch and extreme opponent, Madison Gesiotto Gilbert, stands against the community at every turn and must be defeated this November. While the GOP traffics in disinformation, Sykes is running to defend reproductive rights and abortion access, lower rising costs and bills, and create good jobs for the people of Northeast Ohio,” President of EMILYs List Laphonza Butler said.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
