FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates state Sen. Emily Randall on her election to Washington’s 6th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate state Sen. Emily Randall on her groundbreaking election to Washington’s 6th Congressional District. She is a community leader who is passionate about abortion access and reproductive freedoms, accessible and affordable higher education, and Medicaid expansion. State Sen. Randall will be the first openly LGBTQ+ Latina in Congress. We know she will bring her drive and experience as a state legislator to her new office, and we are excited to watch her work on behalf of Washingtonians in Congress.”
This election makes state Sen. Randall the first ever woman, Latina, and person of color to hold the WA-06 seat. EMILYs List has supported state Sen. Randall since her first election in 2018.
State Sen. Randall was born in Port Orchard, Washington, where she grew up valuing education and understanding the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare. State Sen. Randall was the first in her family to attend a four-year college, earning degrees in Spanish and women’s studies. Growing up, state Sen. Randall saw the impact Washington State’s Medicaid expansion had on her family. Born with complex medical issues, state Sen. Randall’s sister was able to receive necessary care that was crucial to her quality of life. These experiences shaped state Sen. Randall’s views and led her to politics. Since first being elected, state Sen. Randall has been an advocate for affordable and accessible education and health care.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
