EMILYs List Congratulates Sharice Davids on Her Reelection to Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Sharice Davids on her reelection to Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Sharice Davids’ victory today is critical, not just because her must-hold seat will help ensure that Americans have a Congress that will protect reproductive freedom, but because of what it represents: victory over anti-choice extremism, lies, and deception. We know that Davids will continue to be an effective and dedicated representative for the people of Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District, and EMILYs List is proud to congratulate her on her reelection.”

A member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Sharice Davids made history in 2018 as one of the first Native American women elected to Congress. She studied business administration at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and received her law degree from Cornell Law School, then worked for a law firm in Kansas City on issues including economic development for Native American tribes. Davids served as a White House Fellow during the final year of the Obama administration. She has competed in mixed martial arts tournaments, fighting both professionally and as an amateur, and is the author of an autobiographical children’s book. Davids is also the first openly LGBTQ+ member of the Kansas congressional delegation and the first Democratic woman to represent the 3rd Congressional District.

Women Vote, EMILY's List's independent expenditure arm, invested $275,000 in a robust digital program highlighting Davids’ opponent’s support for anti-abortion measures.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
