FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Michelle Vallejo on advancing to the general election for Texas’ 15th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate Michelle Vallejo for advancing to the general election for Texas’ 15th Congressional District. As a businesswoman and community leader, Vallejo has been a long-time champion for women, and unlike her Republican extremist opponent, she will fight in Congress to restore and protect reproductive freedom for Texans. Vallejo’s victory is crucial to taking back the House, and EMILYs List is excited to support her on her path to victory in November.”

Michelle Vallejo is a businesswoman and community leader running to represent Texas’ 15th Congressional District. Vallejo, whose parents immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico as children, comes from a big family of farm workers and business owners. After she attended Columbia University to study political science and history, she returned to Alton, Texas, to help her father run the flea market that her family has operated for almost 25 years. Seeing the importance of community and entrepreneurship, Vallejo co-founded Hustle+Socialize, an annual conference to support and empower minority women in business in South Texas. Vallejo was the 2022 Democratic nominee for the 15th District, and she is running again to fight for working class South Texans. “All along la frontera and throughout South Texas, we look out for each other because we know that no one else will,” she has said. She is running against Republican incumbent Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, who is an anti-choice extremist that stayed silent even when Texas’ extreme anti-abortion legislation forced women to flee their home state to access the health care they need.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
