FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Lisa Blunt Rochester on advancing to the Delaware U.S. Senate general election. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Lisa Blunt Rochester on advancing to Delaware’s U.S. Senate general election. This selfless public servant has a proven track record of fighting to protect our fundamental freedoms and against extremism in the U.S. House. We are thrilled to stand with Blunt Rochester in this historical election as she continues her great work as a champion for workers, women and families, and civil rights in the U.S. Senate, and we look forward to making history with her again.”

Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester is the current representative for Delaware’s At-Large Congressional District, where she made history as the first woman and first African-American to represent Delaware when she won a seat in Congress in 2017 with the full support of EMILYs List. Blunt Rochester grew up in Wilmington, Delaware in a family with a strong tradition of public service, and she has dedicated her life to helping women and families get ahead. She was appointed as Delaware’s deputy secretary of health and social services in 1993, and in 1998, Blunt Rochester made history as Delaware’s first Black woman secretary of labor. In 2001, she was appointed again as state personnel director, where she worked to end racial and gender discrimination in the Delaware State Police department. Blunt Rochester also previously served as the CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, a community-based organization that provides direct services to people of color through programs, advocacy, and research. If elected to the Senate, Blunt Rochester would be the first woman and first Black senator to represent Delaware in the state’s history.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
