EMILYs List Congratulates Katy Padilla Stout on Her Election in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following Katy Padilla Stout’s election in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List congratulates Katy Padilla Stout on flipping Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, a major victory for Democrats in a district Texas Republicans gerrymandered to protect their hold on power. Katy defied the odds, built a winning coalition, and defeated extremist Brandon Herrera. A former public school teacher and attorney, she knows what Texas families need and has spent her career fighting to expand opportunity. In Congress, Katy will fight to lower costs, strengthen public schools, and put working families first.”

EMILYs List’s Mission Majority initiative put Democratic women at the center of an aggressive strategy to flip the U.S. House and reclaim the majority. EMILYs List led the effort to expand the battleground map, backing 26 Majority Makers in key competitive districts and tougher Republican-held terrain where strong women candidates could deliver the seats Democrats needed to win the House. We built that strategy by providing strategic guidance, critical resources, and targeted fundraising and communications support to help candidates compete and win.
