EMILYs List Congratulates Janet Protasiewicz on Advancing to the General Election for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Janet Protasiewicz on advancing to the general election for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“EMILYs list is thrilled that Judge Janet Protasiewicz has advanced to the general election to determine who will serve as the next Supreme Court justice for the state of Wisconsin. This victory puts millions of Wisconsinites one step closer to having a true pro-choice majority on the state Supreme Court, which is critical to restoring and ensuring abortion rights for years to come. The importance of this election cannot be overstated, and we look forward to supporting Protasiewicz as her campaign continues.”
Judge Janet Protasiewicz has over 35 years of experience in law and nearly a decade of experience as a circuit court judge, earning a reputation for fairness and impartiality, community involvement, and a deep dedication to justice. Protasiewicz is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and Marquette University, where she later taught as an adjunct professor of law. She is proud to call herself a lifelong advocate for victims of crime and spent more than 25 years as assistant district attorney prosecuting serious crimes. Protasiewicz is running to be a Wisconsin Supreme Court justice who protects the right to privacy, defends democracy, and restores confidence in judges.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
