EMILYs List Endorses Donna Deegan for Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Donna Deegan for mayor of Jacksonville, Florida. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“For far too long the residents of Jacksonville, Florida have been led by extremist politicians who do not have their best interests at heart. Donna Deegan is looking to change that. As mayor, she will be committed to championing improved infrastructure, affordable health care and a thriving economy for all. EMILYs List is proud to endorse her campaign for mayor because we know just how important mayors are to protecting the rights of a city’s residents and we look forward to helping usher in a new era for the people of Jacksonville.”

Donna Deegan is a former news anchor, nonprofit founder, three-time breast cancer survivor and fifth generation resident of Jacksonville, Florida. Deegan spent 25 years reporting the news, diving deep into issues that affect Floridians and holding the powerful accountable. After surviving breast cancer, she founded the DONNA Foundation to support patients, survivors, and health care providers, which has now provided support to over 17,000 families and raised millions for cancer research. Deegan is also the recipient of the Jacksonville Business Journal Women of Influence Award, the Enterprising Women’s Leadership Award, the Florence Davis Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Florida Times-Union’s EVE Award for volunteer service.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
