FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Gina Ortiz Jones on advancing to the runoff in the race for San Antonio mayor. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is pleased to congratulate Gina Ortiz Jones on advancing to the runoff in this important election to become San Antonio’s next mayor. With a proven track record of fighting for our freedoms and security, Jones is well equipped to make real change for the people of San Antonio. She is a dedicated public servant, who is committed to advocating for hardworking Texans and we are thrilled to continue supporting her to the finish line.”

Gina Ortiz Jones was the 27th Under Secretary of the Air Force, the second-highest civilian overseeing the United States Air Force and Space Force. She is the daughter of a single immigrant mother from the Philippines who served for over 40 years as a public school teacher and she saw the impact that federal funding support had for lower-income families in her San Antonio schools first hand. After graduating from an ROTC program, she served as an intelligence officer in the Air Force and was soon after deployed to Iraq. After returning from Iraq, Jones advised on military operations in Latin America while working at Fort Sam Houston, and joined the Defense Intelligence Agency as an inaugural member of the U.S. Africa Command supporting missions across the continent. Later, Jones served in the Executive Office of the President on issues at the intersection of our economic and national security.
