EMILYs List Congratulates Charity Clark on Victory in Vermont Attorney General Race

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Charity Clark on her election as Vermont attorney general. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List congratulates Charity Clark on her trailblazing campaign for Vermont attorney general, making history as the first Democratic woman elected to the position. We are eager to see this pro-choice champion stand up for fundamental freedoms in Vermont, and we know that she will usher in a new era of justice and opportunity for every Vermonter.”

Charity Clark is a lawyer, mother, and proud Vermonter who will serve as the state’s next attorney general. She has deep roots in the state: she is the daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of small town grocers. Clark graduated from University of Vermont, served as a policy analyst in the Vermont governor’s office, and then went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. In 2014, Clark began serving as an assistant attorney general in the public protection division, and in 2018, began working as chief of staff for Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan. Clark plans to fight for small businesses and consumers, protect the environment, protect reproductive freedom, and address gender-based violence as Vermont attorney general.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
