EMILYs List Congratulates Angie Craig on Her Victory in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated EMILYs List candidate Angie Craig on being elected to represent Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Angie Craig as she makes history in Minnesota’s 2nd District. Angie will be the first openly LGBTQ person to represent Minnesota in Congress, as well as the first openly LGBTQ mother to serve in Congress. Angie is a proven leader for LGBTQ families and her fight for custody of her son in 2000 led to a landmark ruling which made it possible for other same-sex couples to adopt. She is a champion for equality, a fighter for health care, and an ally who will not back down when it comes to standing up against the disastrous GOP agenda. Not only has Angie flipped a pivotal seat from red to blue, but she will be the first woman to represent this district.”

Women Vote, EMILY's List's independent expenditure arm, contributed $100,000 to House Majority PAC’s independent expenditure effort.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
