EMILY's List Announces First Round of Michigan Legislative Endorsements Ahead of August Primary
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, made its first round of Michigan legislative endorsements ahead of the August 7th primary, endorsing 12 women leaders for the Michigan state Legislature. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“It’s clear state Republicans will continue to attack the opportunities of Michigan women and their families — from dismantling education to limiting health care — until they are voted out of office. Just this past session, Republicans passed a budget that attempted to divert funding from any health care provider that offers family planning and reproductive health care services in addition to abortion coverage. EMILYs List is proud to endorse 12 pro-choice Democratic women who are not afraid to reverse these extreme anti-choice policies and fight to protect access to health care coverage for every Michigander.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates:
Tanya Cabala (HD-91)
Brenda Carter (HD-29)
Kara Hope (HD-67)
Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (HD-08)
Erika Geiss (SD-06)
Alberta Griffin (HD-61)
Sheryl Kennedy (HD-48)
Dayna Polehanki (SD-07)
Sylvia Santana (SD-03)
Sheila Troxel (HD-64)
Kathy Wiejaczka (HD-101)
Tenisha Yancey (HD-01)
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
