EMILYs List Announces First Round of Legislative Endorsements In Top-Targeted Pennsylvania Ahead of May Primary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, made its first round of Pennsylvania legislative endorsements ahead of the May 15th primary, endorsing eight women leaders for the Pennsylvania state legislature. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“EMILY's List has been committed for decades to recruiting and changing the number of women elected in Pennsylvania, but this cycle we doubled down. We have been on the ground in Pennsylvania since last year working to ensure that women have the resources to run and win – and these initial eight endorsements are the first step toward an exciting slate of strong women candidates for the state legislature. With Pennsylvania Republicans' large majorities in both legislative chambers, major changes need to be made to prevent them from pushing some of the strictest anti-choice laws in the country. It has never been more important to have women at the table to stand up for our constitutional right to choose and fight for policies that expand opportunities for working families. Here at EMILY's List, we are confident these women will bring necessary change to Pennsylvania's state legislature and we are proud to stand with them.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
