EMILYs List Responds to Tom Perez’s Election as DNC Chair

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Democratic National Committee elected Tom Perez as Chair. In response, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“After several months of positive, constructive debate among all the candidates for DNC Chair, EMILY's List is looking forward to working together with Tom Perez to protect our American values and make progress for women and families across the country. With so much at stake, we stand united in opposition to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s dangerous, un-American agenda that is taking aim at our country’s core values and economic future. We have many tough fights ahead of us, and we are confident in Chairman Perez’s experienced and inclusive leadership. We know that women are not only leading the opposition to this administration on Capitol Hill, in town halls, and in marches in cities across this country, but are the backbone of a Democratic Party that has long fought for progress and justice. We are confident that as a united party, we will continue to build, support, and increase the ranks of Democratic women in office across the country.”

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have trained nearly 10,000 women to run and helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color – including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic congresswoman currently serving.
