WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, comedian and author Chelsea Handler announced that she has partnered with EMILYs List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, in their work to elect more pro-choice Democratic women to office at all levels. Handler will co-chair EMILY's List's Creative Council, an initiative to reach new, diverse groups of voters who will support pro-choice Democratic women running up and down the ballot.

“If the past year has taught us anything, it's that we need more women in power – especially in politics,” said Chelsea Handler. “I'm proud to partner with EMILY's List, which has worked for decades to elect women to office at all levels of our government, and to co-chair the Creative Council. Like so many Americans, I was motivated by last year's election – and Donald Trump and the Republican Party's repeated attacks on our rights since – to take action and fight back. That starts with changing the face of power in this country by electing a wave of pro-choice Democratic women to office at the local, state, and federal levels in 2018 and years to come.”

“We're thrilled to have Chelsea join EMILY's List and our more than five million-strong EMILY's List community,” said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List. “For years, Chelsea has been a leader and determined champion for women's rights and our progressive values. I know she'll bring that experience and drive to this essential fight. Our work recruiting, training, and electing Democratic women to office is more important now than ever, and Chelsea is a powerful voice that can amplify our mission and our incredible candidates to millions.”

“I'm incredibly excited to have Chelsea join as co-chair of the Creative Council,” said film producer Paul Bernon, founder and co-chair of EMILY's List's Creative Council. “We need the voices of powerful women in office – and it will take the equally powerful voices of women to get them there. With Chelsea on our side, we can help make sure that our work – and the work our candidates are doing to disrupt the Republican status quo – reaches millions of Americans across the country. We're thrilled to welcome Chelsea to our fight.”

Since Election Day 2016, EMILY's List has heard from over 22,000 women interested in running for office.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
