EMILYs List Statement on the Republican-Led Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Republicans shut down the federal government instead of negotiating with Democrats to pass a budget that would protect health care for millions of Americans and lower costs. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Republicans, who have total control of the federal government, shut down the government rather than pass a budget that lowers costs for the American people and protects health care for millions of working people and families. At a time when Americans are already struggling to pay bills and put food on the table, Republicans have made things worse. Democrats are fighting back, holding the line to protect Americans’ health care and lower costs. It’s never been more urgent to take back power and flip the House of Representatives. Electing Democratic women is how we do that.”
