WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, released the following statement recognizing International Women’s Day:
“Today marks International Women's Day, a celebration of how far we've come – and a reminder of the many fights ahead.”
“Donald Trump and the Republican Party haven't just made attacking the rights of American women a top priority of theirs, they have gone after women across the world, too. One of Trump's first acts as president was to reinstate and expand the global gag rule, which forbids international organizations that receive U.S. funding from providing information about abortion, jeopardizing the lives and futures of millions of women globally. Trump slashed funding for foreign aid, proposed eliminating the Office of Global Women's Issues, ordered an end to the DACA program, and repeatedly attacked immigrants – the majority of whom are women and families.”
“But today, like every day, women will not be silenced. In the face of these injustices, women are standing up, together, to take action – for their American sisters, and for their sisters around the globe. Since the 2016 election, EMILY's List has heard from more than 34,000 women who want to run for office and change the world. The radical, anti-woman agenda of the Republican Party will be no match for our candidates this November – and every November to come.”
