EMILYs List Endorses Carol Obando-Derstine for Election to Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Carol Obando-Derstine for election to Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“As Congressman Ryan Mackenzie and Republican extremists attack working families, Carol Obando-Derstine is ready to fight back. An engineer, educator, and bilingual leader, she’s spent her life serving her community, helping families get ahead, and delivering real results. Carol will stand up to Ryan Mackezie’s anti-worker agenda and fight to make housing, groceries and utilities more affordable. She will fight back against extreme attacks on health care and be a fierce advocate for reproductive freedom. EMILYs List is proud to endorse her in this critical flip seat at the center of the fight for the House majority.”
Carol Obando-Derstine is the daughter of Colombian immigrants who came to this country seeking a better life when she was just three years old. She’s spent her life making that dream real for others: overseeing a food pantry, working in a Head Start program, and leading organizations like SkillsUSA Council and the Children’s Coalition of the Lehigh Valley to expand opportunity for local families. Carol also served as a regional manager for Sen. Bob Casey and was appointed to Gov. Wolf’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs. At the age of 43, she went back to earn a master’s degree in energy engineering from Lehigh University and worked in the energy sector for PPL Electric Utilities for nearly a decade. Now, she’s running for Congress to make sure every family has the chance to thrive.
