EMILYs List Statement on Trump Signing Devastating Budget Bill, Ripping Away Lifelines from Millions
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Donald Trump decided to make life less affordable for working Americans, while handing tax cuts to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy. In a betrayal of millions of Americans, he signed his budget bill into law, cutting critical social services like food assistance, eliminating health insurance for up to 20 million people, and harshly restricting abortion access by targeting Planned Parenthood and other entities that provide care. Trump and Republicans did this to pay for the largest wealth transfer to the rich in American history.
EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement in response:
“There is nothing patriotic about ripping away millions of people’s health care, gatekeeping access to affordable food, and selling out working families — all to put Americans’ hard-earned dollars into billionaires’ pockets. Don’t get it twisted: Donald Trump couldn’t care less about the American people or the American dream, he only cares about helping the rich get richer.
“And Republicans have followed suit. They’ve exposed themselves as spineless leaders who will continue to fall in line with Trump, no matter how high the costs to their constituents’ lives. Their recklessness will not end here. Unfortunately for Republicans up for reelection, voters don’t play nice when it comes to their lives. Our message to you: It’s time to find new jobs.”
