EMILY's List Endorses Virginia Madueño for Congress in California's 10th District
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Virginia Madueño for Congress in California's 10th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Virginia Madueño understands why it’s so important to make the American dream a reality for hardworking families and communities. She grew up facing a life-threatening health crisis, which is why Virginia has been a strong voice for quality, affordable health care. During her time as mayor of Riverbank and as a small business owner, she cut red tape to help local businesses create jobs and worked with the U.S. Army to convert an old local factory into a community jobs hub.”
“Meanwhile, Congressman Jeff Denham has failed to stand up for California families by voting to take away Californians’ health care and siding with President Donald Trump’s agenda nearly 99% of the time. EMILYs List could not be prouder to support a champion for women and hardworking families like Virginia Madueño who will change the status quo and make sure the voices of San Joaquin families are heard in Congress.”
Last year, EMILYs List placed Congressman Jeff Denham “On Notice” as one of its top targets for 2018. Virginia is challenging vulnerable incumbent Republican Congressman Jeff Denham in California’s 10th District — one of the 23 Republican-held districts that voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. Our path to taking back the House runs straight through districts like this one, and Virginia has what it takes to flip this seat. Congressman Denham has sided with President Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda nearly 99 percent of the time, hurting the working families he was elected to serve.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
