Campaign Committee (DLCC) will announce a new partnership to recruit and elect more Democratic women to state legislatures around the country. The groups plan to expand their list of targeted seats ahead of the 2018 elections.
“On the heels of our wins in the special elections in Minnesota and Florida, it is more apparent than ever that voters want to see more pro-choice Democratic women in elected office – and we want to harness that energy by winning seats one election at a time,” says Emily Cain, executive director of EMILYs List. “Voters are flipping red seats to blue because they know that our party will fight for their values. 2018 is shaping up to be an historic year to get more women elected and our partnership with the DLCC will ensure that we work together to recruit more women to run and give them the tools they need to win.”
“State Democrats have set high watermarks by flipping more than 30 contested Republican seats,” said DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post. “The DLCC is thrilled to partner with EMILYs List to continue our support of phenomenal women candidates. With more Democratic women stepping up to run for office to champion access to health care, equal rights, climate protection, and quality education, our women are fighting to protect their communities from the extremist right-wing agenda coming out of Washington. We look forward to working together to recruit more strong women candidates in districts across the country as we gear up for elections this November.”
Just this week, EMILYs List and the DLCC supported two Democratic women candidates who won in special elections – Karla Bigham in Minnesota’s SD-54 and Margaret Good in Florida’s HD-72.
EMILY's List is targeting close to 600 state and local seats in their effort to flip a dozen chambers across the country. Each of these races will be critical to fight back against the extreme agenda the GOP is pushing in states like Ohio, Florida, and New Hampshire. The DLCC recently highlighted how Democrats in state legislatures are leading the blue wall of resistance against the Trump administration’s extremist policies. State Democrats are only 16 seats away from flipping eight chambers, and the DLCC is partnering with organizations like EMILYs List to ensure Democrats are recruiting and training the best candidates in every district possible.
During the press call, EMILYs List and the DLCC will discuss their efforts to recruit more women and provide the training and support they need to be successful in their races.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
