EMILYs List on Victories in Georgia
December 6, 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, released the following statement congratulating Jen Jordan, Nikema Williams, Bee Nguyen and Keisha Lance Bottoms on their wins tonight.
“Voters in Georgia have shown that they are ready for change by electing these impressive women leaders,” said EMILYs List President Stephanie Schriock. “Bee Nguyen, Jen Jordan, and Nikema Williams will be strong voices for working families as they fight for policies that empower women and improve the state’s economy. The EMILYs List community is proud to stand with them as they champion policies that will improve the lives of women, protect voting rights, empower working families, and address critical infrastructure needs. We are thrilled to have their leadership in the Georgia general assembly.
“Atlanta families will also have a champion in Keisha Lance Bottoms. Keisha has been a devoted public servant and passionate advocate for the working people of Atlanta on the city council. As mayor, she will continue to fight for improved infrastructure, smart spending, and equality for all. We congratulate her on this impressive victory.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
