FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed former U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Deb Haaland for governor of New Mexico. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse the honorable Deb Haaland to be New Mexico’s next governor. Deb has a proven track record of fighting for her constituents on reproductive freedom, climate change, and building an economy that puts working families first. Deb has shattered glass ceilings throughout her career and we are honored to continue to support her in this election.”

A 35th generation New Mexican, former Secretary Deb Haaland attended the University of New Mexico where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and later a law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law. Haaland has repeatedly made history, from 2010 when she became the first woman elected to chair the Laguna Development Corporation Board of Directors, again in 2015 as the first Native American woman elected to lead a state party, in 2018 when she was one of the first two Native American women elected to Congress, and most recently in 2021, when she was confirmed as Secretary of the Interior under the Biden administration.
