EMILYs List Statement on Trump’s Presidential Inauguration

January 19, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tomorrow, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States of America. This will mark his second term as president. In his first term, he mismanaged a deadly pandemic, put the country into economic turmoil, and caused the overturning of Roe v. Wade. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“To the people of America, we’ve got important work to do.

“Today is a grave day in history, but it is a reminder that we persist in the face of extremism. Because of the work of EMILYs List over the past 40 years, women are at the center of the most critical fights ahead of us.

“While it may feel like progress is backsliding over the next four years, make no mistake: Democratic pro-choice women will be the frontline fighters against Trump and the Republican Party’s extremist policies that will cause significant harm to millions of people across the country. And we must elect more of these Democratic champions. Women have been put in the position to meet the moment, and now it’s on us to build back political power — it’s the fight of our generation.

“You’re mad? Me too. So let’s get to work.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Over nearly 40 years, EMILYs List has raised nearly $950 million to help Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the most impactful independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 192 women to the House, 29 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,600 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
