November 6, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Sen. Tammy Baldwin on her reelection to the U.S. Senate representing Wisconsin. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List congratulates Sen. Baldwin on another well-deserved reelection victory. Sen. Baldwin is a tireless public servant, a fearless advocate for reproductive justice, and a champion on progressive issues. Her voice is needed in the Senate now more than ever. As the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to the U.S. Senate, Sen. Balwin continues to break barriers and fight for Wisconsinites, as she has done throughout her career. We are proud to witness the great work she will continue to do in the U.S. Senate.”

Women Vote, EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm, invested $2.75 million in helping to reelect Sen. Baldwin. Women Vote ran the first ad on Republican Eric Hovde’s abortion record in the general election featuring Wisconsin health care professionals. The ad highlighted Hovde’s extreme anti-abortion stance, including his statement that he is “totally opposed to abortion.” Women Vote also ran a three-piece mail program in partnership with the League of Conservation Voters targeting low-propensity voters.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin graduated from Smith College and the University of Wisconsin Law School, then served four terms on the Dane County Board of Supervisors and three terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly. She was first elected to Congress in 1998 from Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District, making her the state’s first female representative and the nation’s first openly gay person to win a congressional seat as a non-incumbent. She served seven terms in the House of Representatives and helped craft the Affordable Care Act. Endorsed by EMILYs List in 2012, Baldwin became Wisconsin’s first woman Senator and the first openly gay member elected to the U.S. Senate. She was reelected in 2018. Baldwin has especially focused on Wisconsin’s farmers, Buy American policies, and health care affordability during her time in Congress.

The EMILYs List community also contributed over $540,000 to Tammy Baldwin this cycle.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
