WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates state Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet on her election to Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate state Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet on her victory in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. McDonald Rivet has a proven track record of working for middle class families, addressing the need for affordable child care, and standing up for reproductive freedom. She is an advocate for women and families and we are excited to watch her continue her effective work in Congress fighting to secure our reproductive freedoms.”
McDonald Rivet was previously elected to the Michigan state Legislature in 2022 with the support of EMILYs List, making her the first Democrat in a decade and the first woman ever to represent the Great Lakes Bay Region.
State Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet is a native mid-Michigander who has dedicated her life to improving the lives of working families. State Sen. McDonald Rivet has over 30 years of experience and has worked to improve employment and educational opportunities, revitalize neighborhoods, increase youth development programs, and create public policy to address institutional inequity issues. She served as executive director of the Michigan Head Start Association, vice president of Michigan Future, Inc., and president/CEO of Greater Midland, Inc. As a community leader, state Sen. McDonald Rivet was elected to serve as a Bay City commissioner and also was a chief strategy officer for the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
