EMILYs List Congratulates Rep. Elissa Slotkin on Her Election to the United States Senate

November 6, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Rep. Elissa Slotkin on her election to the U.S. Senate from Michigan. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Elissa Slotkin on her victory. Rep. Slotkin is a pro-choice champion with a proven track record of serving her constituents by fighting to protect health care access, voting rights, and to create an opportunity economy for all Michiganders. EMILYs List is thrilled to see the torch pass from retiring champion Sen. Debbie Stabenow to Senator-Elect Elissa Slotkin.”

This cycle, Women Vote, EMILYs List’s independent expenditure, invested more than $500,000 in the Michigan U.S. Senate race through a digital program targeting Independent women. The digital ads featured Michigan care providers and patients talking about the impact of abortion bans, and Mike Rogers’ long history opposing abortion access in Congress. The program was shown on premium video, streaming services, and social media.

EMILYs List was proud to stand with Slotkin in her successful Congressional runs in 2018, 2020, and 2022.

The EMILYs List community also contributed over $617,000 to Elissa Slotkin this cycle.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin is a national security leader and a life-long public servant. She is a third-generation Michigander who learned the importance of hard work on her family farm in Holly, Michigan. Following the 9/11 attacks, she was recruited to join the Central Intelligence Agency as a Middle East analyst. Working alongside the U.S. military, she served a total of three tours in Iraq over a span of five years. Rep. Slotkin has held a variety of defense and intelligence roles — under both President Bush and President Obama — at the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the State Department, and the Pentagon. Her mother’s cancer battle and struggles to afford health care motivated her to run for public office. Rep. Slotkin is ready to continue fighting for Michigan’s working families in the U.S. Senate.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
