EMILYs List Statement on Vote to Allow States to Defund Planned Parenthood
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List President Stephanie Schriock released the following statement after Vice President Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote to roll back protections to allow states to defund Planned Parenthood:
“This is outrageous. The fact that Vice President Pence — again — decided to cast a tie-breaking vote that puts women and families’ opportunities on the chopping block is downright shameful. To make matters worse, it comes just one day after President Trump’s administration tried to claim they care about empowering women.”
“Stripping millions of Americans of the critical health care services that Planned Parenthood provides doesn’t just hurt women — it hurts entire families and their economic security. This is just one more example of Donald Trump’s White House and this Republican Congress taking every single opportunity to chip away at women’s rights, and we won’t stand for it. We’re proud of our EMILYs List women who have consistently stood up against the GOP’s dangerous agenda, and plan to send them reinforcements at all levels of government in elections to come.”
