EMILYs List Endorses Two Democratic Pro-Choice Women for Election to the Georgia State House
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed two Democratic pro-choice women for election to the Georgia state House. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Danielle Bell and Debra Shigley for the Georgia state House. We urgently need Democratic women in office who are committed to enacting common sense gun safety legislation to keep Georgia families safe and who are ready to fight for our reproductive freedom. Bell and Shigley will defend Georgia families from Republican extremism and we are honored to support these groundbreaking women.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates for election:
- Danielle Bell (GA-HD44)
- Debra Shigley (GA-HD47)
If elected, Bell would become the first Democratic woman to unseat the sitting Republican incumbent in the 44th District since 2012. Shigley would be the first Black Jewish woman to represent House District 47 in Georgia.
These candidates join six other Democratic pro-choice women endorsed by EMILYs List for the Georgia state Legislature this cycle: Nabilah Islam Parkes (GA-SD07), Laura Murvartian (GA-HD48), Dr. Michelle Au (GA-HD50), Susie Greenberg (GA-HD53), Michelle Kang (GA-HD99), and Dr. Jasmine Clark (GA-HD108).
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
