WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Representative Jacky Rosen for re-election to Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Jacky Rosen is running to continue representing Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, a community she has called home for over 35 years. When she was growing up, she learned the importance of public service from her father, a veteran of the Korean War. Jacky was the first in her family to graduate from college, and she worked two jobs and took out student loans to help her achieve that goal. Jacky’s first job as a computer programmer didn’t pay enough to cover her bills, and she experienced pay discrimination when her superiors provided larger raises to male colleagues, so she worked as a banquet waitress on weekends to make ends meet. Jacky was a proud member of the local Culinary Workers Union — an experience that inspires her advocacy for working families. As her career progressed, Jacky enjoyed success as a computer programmer and software developer before becoming a caregiver and advocate for parents and her in-laws as they went through their aging process as she raised her own family. In 2014, after a lifetime of volunteering, Jacky became president of her synagogue, dedicating her time to building community and helping those in need. Under Jacky’s leadership, her congregation developed strong interfaith relationships with other communities in Southern Nevada, engaged in important political discussions, and provided support to local individuals and families struggling to get by. Last cycle, Jacky quickly mounted a strong campaign to flip an open seat and give Southern Nevada women and families a voice in Congress. In spite of the millions the GOP spent against her, Jacky beat the odds to turn Nevada’s 3rd District blue in 2016 — an outlier in a tough year for Democrats across the country. Jacky is now a powerful voice for Southern Nevada’s working families in Washington.
When she came to Washington, D.C., Jacky brought her values with her. She participated in the Women’s March on Washington, and at a prayer service that morning she asked her fellow marchers to recite the Jewish blessing aimed at healing pain, as well as the blessing of praise, for the unity shown by the community that came together to stand in solidarity with all women. Jacky understands that economic opportunity and economic security are social justice issues. As a former union member who has worked in a field dominated by men, Jacky is a powerful advocate for commonsense policies that give women and families a fair shot, including paid family and medical leave, equal pay for equal work, and a higher minimum wage. Jacky is committed to passing comprehensive immigration reform legislation that would create thousands of jobs in Nevada, grow our economy, keep families together — and stay true to our inclusive American values. She has spoken out against Donald Trump’s executive order to ban refugees, and has called for commonsense policies that keep us safe while staying true to our values. Jacky is an advocate for sustainable energy policies that grow our economy, and as a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology she is uniquely positioned to stand up to Donald Trump and his Republican allies’ extreme agenda of climate change denial.
