EMILYs List Congratulates Rep. Elissa Slotkin on Her Primary Victory in the Michigan U.S. Senate Election
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Rep. Elissa Slotkin on her primary victory in the Michigan U.S. Senate election. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Elissa Slotkin is a Democratic pro-choice champion who is committed to fighting for Michigan’s working families and EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate her on her primary victory in this Michigan U.S. Senate race. Rep. Slotkin has a legislative track record of protecting our reproductive freedoms, strengthening our national security, and providing economic opportunity for her constituents. We can’t wait to see her continue this important work in the U.S. Senate.”
Rep. Elissa Slotkin is a national security leader and a life-long public servant. She is a third-generation Michigander who learned the importance of hard work on her family farm in Holly, Michigan. Following the 9/11 attacks, she was recruited to join the Central Intelligence Agency as a Middle East analyst. Working alongside the U.S. military, she served a total of three tours in Iraq over a span of five years. Rep. Slotkin has held a variety of defense and intelligence roles — under both President Bush and President Obama — at the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the State Department, and the Pentagon. Her mother’s cancer battle and struggles to afford health care motivated her to run for public office. Rep. Slotkin was elected to Congress in 2018 with EMILYs List support. This election cycle Rep. Slotkin raised a record-breaking $22.5 million. During the second quarter, she brought in $6.45 million, outraising the Republican field combined. Slotkin values her community and is ready to continue fighting for Michigan’s working families in the U.S. Senate.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
