July 17, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long for governor of Delaware. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long has a proven track record of working to improve the lives of Delawareans, and EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse her for governor of Delaware. Hall-Long is passionate about community and helping others in their time of need. As a nurse, she has seen firsthand the toll the decision to terminate a non-viable pregnancy takes on expecting mothers, and she will protect our fundamental freedoms in office. Hall-Long is prepared to continue to fight for families who cannot afford adequate health care, fight for people facing addiction, and invest in small businesses. We are proud to support her in this election.”

Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long was born and raised on her family’s farm in Sussex County, Delaware. Early in life, she learned a valuable lesson on the importance of service to others, which inspired her to become a nurse. Hall-Long spent her entire nursing career, teaching thousands of aspiring nursing students at the University of Delaware and has firsthand experience with the importance of health care policy. Hall-Long served in the Delaware House of Representatives from 2002 to 2008 and in the Delaware Senate from 2008 to 2017. During her time in the Delaware General Assembly, she expanded access to affordable care for thousands and spearheaded efforts to address mental health and substance use disorders. She also led efforts to invest in much-needed infrastructure and protect our environment. Hall-Long is currently the 26th lieutenant governor of Delaware, where she is a champion for investments in public education, paid family leave, affordable health care, and small businesses. She has been a national leader in tackling the opioid crisis and improving access to mental health treatment. She was instrumental in the creation of the Behavioral Health Consortium to address the opioid epidemic, substance use disorder, and mental health challenges facing Delawareans. Hall-Long worked with legislators to pass an assault weapons ban and reforms to make our criminal justice system more equitable. She is committed to keeping communities safe and fights tirelessly to ensure Delawareans have the ability to live an affordable and accessible life. Hall-Long and her husband, Dana, live in Middletown.

EMILYs List endorsed Hall-Long for her elections to Delaware’s state House in 2000 and for Delaware’s state Senate in 2008.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
