EMILYs List Statement on Two Year Anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Decision

June 24, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today marks two years since the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned Roe v. Wade and ended the constitutional right to abortion. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“For decades, the GOP agenda was to overturn Roe v. Wade and end abortion. Donald Trump promised to overturn Roe when he ran for president. And they kept this promise. Thanks to a conservative Supreme Court stacked by Donald Trump, millions of Americans have suffered over the last two years from the devastating consequences of being denied abortion care. Two years’ worth of basic rights, personal choice, and life-saving medical care ripped away by Republicans who choose to play politics with real people’s health and lives.

“Yet Republicans still aren’t satisfied with this torrent of destruction. They will do anything in their power to pass a sweeping national abortion ban under Donald Trump. Only one party will protect our rights and it’s critical that we elect Democrats to all levels of the ballot to do so. At EMILYs List, we are proud to help restore life-saving health care to millions of people across the United States — by electing Democratic pro-choice women who will fight on our behalf this November.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
