EMILYs List Endorses Julie Johnson for Election to Texas’ 32nd Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed state Rep. Julie Johnson for election to Texas’ 32nd Congressional District. EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“While Texas Republicans have enacted some of the most draconian abortion bans in the nation, Julie Johnson has remained a powerful voice in the state House for reproductive freedom. She has championed the needs of Texas’ women, children and families and served as a brick wall to stop hateful anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. EMILYs List is proud to endorse Johnson for Texas’ 32nd Congressional District because we know that she will take that same fighting spirit she has had for her entire career to Washington and be a leader Texans can trust.”
State Rep. Julie Johnson is an attorney serving her third term representing Texas’ 115th House District. Johnson has been practicing law since 1991 and has spent her legal career defending workers, advocating for students, and breaking barriers for women. In the state House, she has focused on consumer protection, affordable health care, LGBTQ+ equality, and fighting for reproductive freedom in the face of the radical and dangerous abortion bans Texas Republicans have imposed in the state. When she was elected in 2018 with EMILYs List’s support, Johnson made history as one of the first two openly gay elected officials from Dallas County, and she went head-to-head with Republican extremists in the last legislative session, helping to defeat 76 out of 77 anti-LGBTQ+ bills that were introduced. EMILYs List also endorsed Johnson in 2020 and 2022. Johnson has been married to her wife, Susan, since 2014.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
