EMILYs List Endorses Manka Dhingra for Washington State Attorney General
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed state Sen. Manka Dhingra for attorney general of Washington State. EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Mankra Dhingra has the vision, passion, and leadership to guide the state of Washington into a future that is more just and sustainable for all. In the state Senate, she’s been a powerhouse for Washington’s women and children, and she has spent her career serving the members of her community who are most in need. With reproductive freedom increasingly dependent on our state and local elected officials, supporting pro-choice champions like Dhingra is non-negotiable. EMILYs List is proud to endorse her candidacy for attorney general, and we look forward to seeing all that she will accomplish for the Evergreen State.”
Manka Dhingra is the current state senator for Washington’s 45th Legislative District and the deputy majority leader of the Senate. She is the first Sikh state legislator in the nation, was endorsed by EMILYs List in 2017 and 2018, and if elected, would be the first Sikh attorney general of Washington State. Dhingra has also been a senior deputy prosecuting attorney with King County since 2000. In the state legislature, she founded the Senate Behavioral Health Subcommittee and has focused her work on improving Washingtonians’ mental health, reducing poverty, and reforming the criminal justice system. Beyond her leadership in the state Senate, Dhingra is also a strong advocate for women in her community and the co-founder of the organization API Chaya, which serves survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Dhingra lives in Redmond, Washington with her husband and their two children.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
