EMILYs List Congratulates Vi Lyles on Her Reelection as Mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Vi Lyles on her reelection as mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina. EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Extremist North Carolina Republicans will do all they can to roll back not just reproductive freedom but democracy itself — and Democratic pro-choice champions like Mayor Vi Lyles will do everything in their power to speak up for their communities. EMILYs List is thrilled that the people of Charlotte have once again put their faith in Lyles to be their leader, and we are honored to have supported her in this election.”

Vi Lyles is Charlotte, North Carolina’s 59th mayor and the city’s first Black woman mayor in history. She is a former Charlotte budget director and assistant city manager, and was subsequently elected to serve two consecutive terms as a city councilor at-large. She was first elected mayor in 2017 with the full support of EMILYs List. As mayor, Lyles has led the effort to commit $150 million to affordable housing, helped to create over 27,000 new jobs, and focused on expanding transportation infrastructure and increasing community safety. Lyles is a graduate of both Queens University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
